Chuan

The Chuan series further examines these themes by using a doll as a metaphor for women’s lives. Manipulated into poses that suggest both purity and exploitation, the doll symbolizes the ways women are objectified and shaped by external forces. The artificial nature of the doll underscores the societal construction of female identity, questioning the balance between autonomy and conformity. By distorting the doll’s form, Cui creates a haunting commentary on the fragility of innocence and the pervasive pressures women face to conform to unattainable ideals.
